Dr. Ruth Is Still At It!
To be honest, we didn’t know she was still alive. But she is! Dr. Ruth Westheimer is a pioneer in popular, public sex education. If you are old enough to remember, her radio and TV shows gave us frank and funny discussions of things that you wouldn’t think could ever be mentioned on radio or TV. She was media icon, and everyone knew how to imitate her. If you aren’t familiar with her, imagine a sweet, tiny, Jewish grandmother who is advising you in very explicit terms about sex.
She was a pioneer, not just because she knows a LOT about sex, but she was accessible. Unlike scientists like Masters & Johnson, Dr. Ruth was right there and you could ask her, literally anything. And people did. She made it okay to have an adult conversation about sex.
